Telugu Badi

Telugu Badi (TB was first established by Telugu Association Inc. (also known as Sydney Telugu Association - STA) in 1993 to fulfil its objective “to promote, conserve and advance Telugu culture”.

It is a free service to encourage children to learn Telugu culture through language regardless of their background. Telugu Badi is run by a team of volunteers every weekend in different locations in Sydney.

Telugu Badi volunteers are trained in First aid in addition to culture and language teaching to provide a safe learning environment to children. Its activities include singing, dancing, drama, story-telling, performing arts, hands-on arts and crafts, and has facilities to deliver these through classroom and online.

Children showcase their cultural achievements, talent and learning in community events and cultural festivals such as Ugadi and Deepavali functions of STA, Ganesh Utsav (an idol making event), Annual Telugu Badi event, NSW Premier's Harmony Dinner, NSWFCL Annual dinner and others.

Telugu Badi has developed a comprehensive curriculum and study material with the motto “ఆడుతూ పాడుతూ తెలుగు నేర్చుకుందాం!” to deliver “outcomes based” lessons and activities. Its alumni is nominated as the Ambassador by the NSWFCLS for being a role model for studying and learning community culture and language.

Telugu Badi students feel proud of their cultural heritage and uphold the dignity of Telugu people and India.

There are several reasons for learning Telugu

  1. Every Telugu child has a right to learn his/her mother tongue.
  2. In our multi-cultural environment, inter-community marriages are common occurrences. There is a need for the people to learn Telugu to integrate with the families they are married into
  3. Telugu being one of the ancient languages, senior students may wish to study the language at advanced levels. Such students may wish to start with the language fundamentals at Telugu Badi.

To whichever country you go, wherever you set your foot, whichever position you ascend, whatever others say, glorify your Mother India (Bharati) and uphold the dignity of your race.
