Telugu Vanitha

Telugu Vanitha (Vanitha Mandali), a women’s wing of the TeluguAssociation Inc (also known as Sydney Telugu Association - STA), was established on 10 th October 1993. Vanitha Mandali was started with a view toengage the women in the Telugu community in a variety of cultural activitiesand support them to better assimilate in the Australian community while maintaining their cultural roots.

It is a forum for the women to meet, network, engage and promote cultural activities that includes music, literature and performing arts. Telugu Vanitha organises cultural events that will help provide opportunities for the community to showcase, present, educate their culture through dance,drama, literature, crafts and music. In addition, jointly with other wings of the Association, it promotes health related activities for the physical andmental well-being of the Telugu community.

As a key wing of the Telugu Association Inc., Telugu Vanitha pro-activelyco-ordinates, presents and assists in all the major cultural events the parent organisation organises and strives to contribute to the success of the organisation’s goals and objectives.

Some of the activities organised by the wing include bringing in guest speakers in the areas of music, performing arts, culture, women’s and familyhealth, fitness, healthy cooking and nutrition, art and craft, mentoring and leadership.

Telugu Vanitha promotes women empowerment by encouraging them to learn new skills and become independent and self-reliant. Telugu Vanitha is actively involved in organising the cultural and arts-based activities and informative events to help the community stay engaged and connected with each other socially and culturally, enhancing their socio-economic and mental wellbeing.

In addition, one of the more on-going events organised by this wing includeannual fund-raising event for the Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea, a NSW Cancer Council’s initiative.

Telugu Vanitha’s events are open to the wider Australian community members and their families.
